I don’t actually find this dumb at all. How is the relief money gonna help if there’s no active intent on using it on what a vast majority
of experts agree is the adequate way of acting based on everything they’ve learnt? This is like giving arsonists fire extinguishers
.
If anything, those without empathy are the stupid governors promoting mask wearing as some sort of culture war issue.

My car. There’s a million dead bugs on the front and the front plate. It’s gross. I was thinking about those clear bras today, but I don’t know how that would work with a front plate installed. The bracket is installed in a way that makes it pretty much impossible to take off.

“Age limit.”
I think that’s a bipartisan compromise we can all agree upon. It’s crazy that Ron Desantis seems super young, but he’s still in his 40’s. Even AOC is touted as being super young, but she’s already 30.
I know you have to be 25 for the House, all that, but it’s just interesting that the Squad is bashed for being a bunch of “young people” when AOC, by far the youngest, is born before 1990.

This is presumably more economic stimulus, so it’s mostly going to the super-rich anyway, but some of it would still help people in red states. Withholding it when we’re already at a 50-year peak in civil unrest and on the verge of an enormous eviction crisis strikes me as downright dangerous. Feinstein should call it the Let Them Eat Cake Amendment.

More to my point... what’s the point of giving money to a region that’s constantly shooting itself in the foot with loose sanitary measures
? In the balance of things, giving the money to more responsible states that will use it effectively
is what the federal government should be doing.
I’d say that
specially
because there’s going to be an eviction crisis,
assholes in government
should
fucking bleed
. Lets see how thick their party line truly is, or if they have an ounce of personal and collective responsibility
in them. In the end, being governor is not a game, and somehow I feel that lately governors have both taken themselves too seriously, and too lightly. They don’t recognize that if people die
it is their responsibility
.
I’m sorry if I sound out of touch, but the feds have a commitment to ALL citizens, and that means, in times of crisis and budgetary restrictions, saving as many people as possible with the fewest resources. It just so happens that there’s a political privilege here for the states with governors that don’t have their heads up their asses.

Hmm, I’ll have to seriously think about it. I want to take care of the car. My washer fluid is already low, so I’m a little like “gasp, what do I do?!” Avoiding most dealer adds was something I liked about the dealership I worked with, so most accessories are up to me now.
As for the content of this post, I love when politicians or celebrities try to not be problematic but end up being more problematic than the side they criticize. Y’all know how I feel about masks, but I feel like businesses are stepping up to the point that government mandates aren’t even required. If you want to leave to do anything, even going to an “essential” business, pretty much all are requiring (or will require) face coverings. Even regional chains in conservative areas, like Publix, will require masks.
This seems like the July version of April’s “stay home” orders. The “stay home” orders were kind of irrelevant when pretty much every restaurant chain closed indoor dining & “non essentials” closed themselves. Conservatives love to paint businesses and capitalism as being conservative, but a lot of businesses seem to have progressive policies.*
*Or so it appears.

Well if money is a scarce resource maybe that reasoning makes sense, but I think the past few months have shown that the US treasury can will trillions of dollars into existence with few ill effects, so this really just seems to be done out of spite, or for the sake of political brinksmanship without regard for the human suffering it will cause (like the Democrats have cared about that in like 50 years, lol)

I think masks should be mandated, but if that’s what Feinstein is trying to get the holdouts to do, it’s a misguided and tone-deaf strategy. If anything I’d expect the holdouts to double down.

Lame attempt. In most cases, governors not issuing these orders are expressing that they’re leaving the decision to local authorities, or that the mandates are so unenforceable as to be just a token gesture at all. That said, Alabama ordered it yesterday while Georgia defied it. The rules are all over the board.
OTOH, people without masks in public (indoor) spaces probably ought to be prosecuted or at least subjected to tracking. I’m glad to see most private sector companies pushing for mask policies.
I’m sort of a Libertarian with a Socialist “Break Glass” provision. Basically if we fuck up personal responsibility, don’t be surprised when The Man focrces your hand. Best bet is to do what’s right in the first place.

The Dems learned their lesson in the last election... that going high gets you nowhere.
So now when the Republicans go low, kick ‘em while they’re down there going low.
If you have a problem with that, stop supporting the dotard-in-chief and the party that enables him. They’re the ones that got us to this place.

One of the most fascinating things I’ve come to realize is how much push there has been to involve politics in aspect
of life
when it
really
shouldn’t actually be a factor. I suppose this is because of your election year but it’s quite stark.
Just looking at the FP article ‘GM didn’t know anything about Trumps stunt’. Does it really matter? Just because he used some Chevy trucks is everyone going to think (or be coerced by the media) that GM/Chevy is some degree of affiliation Republican? He mentioned the F-150 in his July 4th speech...
This is
getting more batshit by the day. Where people live, the media they consume and engage with
, hell even certain
foods
they purchase are
now
a strict
political and cultural identifier
.

Because a good deal of people are wearing masks and trying to protect themselves even though they aren’t being forced to. Also, many cities and counties have instituted they’re own mask requirements without a need for the state to issue one.
Arizona doesn’t have a mask requirement, but Maricopa and Pima county do, which comprise like 70% of our population. Most northern cities also have mask requirements. Our biggest population centers lean blue, and have mask requirements, so it wouldn’t make too much sense to punish those voters because our governor is angling for a Trump appointment.

Arizona is a great example of why the senator is not being insensible. Rural communities have fewer hospitals and would require (generally) of large urban centers for treatment.
Since rural areas are less connected, the virus would spread in blocks of people who were in contact, and it would last longer there. If rural areas constantly need attention from urban ones, and will have the virus floating around for longer... Then why not mandate masks there too?

The US Treasury is in uncharted territory... No one really knows how much this debt could hurt the government, specially as despite all the aid and the debt, the US doesn't seem to have the epidemic under control. The effectiveness of the government has been challenged.
I think its hard to blame it on politiking specifically because its a state by state mandate, and many red states have important democrat majorities in some districts and cities. This is a matter of outting the governors and putting them between a rock and a hard place.

Just drove through some of the most rural areas of our state and masks were required in all the towns. Even if they weren’t, punishing 70% of the population, many of whom think their governor is a moron (he’s the only gov with a lower approval rating than Trump in his own state), seems like a boneheaded move.

Progressive policies would be waiting on the government to do it, “conservative” would be deciding for yourself if it’s necessary.
A big, wide-open warehouse club type where there’s only one or two recorded cases in the entire county and several surrounding? Absolutely no need whatsoever for masks. A tiny, cramped corner store in a densely
packed hotspot? There’s cause for action there. But the “progressive” policy says both absolutely need to require masks, or the jack-booted thugs will come pay you a visit.

The difference being that many
experts would say
that illegal immigrants aren’t an astounding source of problems
in their communities nor do they cause problems in other communities
. Also, illegal immigrants are a fed-made issue by strangling immigration courts and having unsustainable immigration laws.
I think those two issues cannot be compared.
I also think that the fed gov
doesn’t have a single “standard” on when to be strict or loose with the states because the huge range of issues that impact governance at a state and federal level can be handled in different ways.
It’s up to criteria... which is why I don’t see any shifts or ironies or equivalences.

It doesn’t make a difference, which is why this is BS politicking from both sides. If these people focused on streamlining testing, instead of trying to score political points, we’d be in a much better spot.
Withholding funds from people in need in the middle of an economic and public health crisis because you don’t like their governor is just as stupid as telling people not to wear masks.
